Cycling for the environment in central Vietnam Culture - Ngày đăng : 17:58, 29/06/2024
As many as 200 local people and tourists participated in a cycling for the environment campaign in Hue, central Vietnam, on June 29 as part of the 2024 Hue Community Ao Dai (long dress) Week and in celebration of the 64th anniversary of the Vietnam Tourism Day on July 9.
The campaign raises public awareness of the need to protect the environment for future generations. The activity also aims to promote Hue as an ASEAN Clean Tourist City. Back in January during the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 held Vientiane (Laos), Hue alongside Vung Tau and Quy Nhon were awarded the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards 2024. The trio were officially recognised for their commitment to cleanliness, waste management, and environmental protection. A little girl wearing Ao Dai (traditional long dress of Vietnam) is carried by her mother on a bicycle as they participate in the event. Nguyen Van Phuc, director of Thua Thien-Hue provincial Department of Tourism, expresses hope that the campaign serves to raise public awareness of environmental protection. Ao Dai, Hue girls, and bicycles are all among the typical images seen by any tourist traveling to Hue. Young girls join the local community in order to spread positive images of a beautiful and clean environment in Hue. Hue is not only known as the birthplace of Ao Dai, but it is also renowned for its traditional craft of making the traditional costume. The 2024 Hue Community Ao Dai Week is an important event that affirms the position of the long dress as part of life. It also aims to develop Hue into the nation’s Ao Dai capital to attract tourists and to promote an image of Hue, the former imperial city which boasts a range of unique traditional cultural values. The costume is renowned for being a symbol of Vietnamese people for both women and men throughout many different periods. VOV
