Bamboo Airways has received an Airbus A320 from Royal Air Philippines under a wet lease arrangement to meet increasing demand for travel during the 2024 peak summer holiday season.

The aircraft that landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on June 25 will be used for air routes to Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Quy Nhon that are in high demand, said Bamboo Airways.

This is the third wet-lease aircraft that Bamboo Airways has received since the beginning of the year to increase the supply source for the domestic aviation market and to meet the high demand during the peak summer period.

Addressing a recent workshop, Luong Hoai Nam, general director of Bamboo Airways, emphasised that domestic airfares can only fall if the number of aircraft owned by Vietnamese airlines increases.

At present, the total number of aircraft being operated by all domestic airlines has reached only 160, a shortage of 60 to 70 aircraft compared to the pre-pandemic levels.

Bamboo Airways plans to lease one more aircraft from now until the end of the year as it seeks to open additional domestic routes such as Ho Chi Minh City-Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City-Thanh Hoa, and Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc.

Currently, Bamboo Airways has been actively operating a flight network connecting the country's three major economic hubs, namely Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City with famous tourist cities nationwide.

Simultaneously, the airline has also operated international charter flights, connecting Vietnam with many famous tourist destinations around the region such as Lijiang in China, Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan (China), Macao (China), and Gwangju in the Republic of Korea to serve domestic and international passengers.
