Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is set to attend the 15th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions, which will take place in Dalian city, Liaoning province of China.
On the occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai answered reporters' questions related to the purpose and significance of the business trip, Vietnam's participation and contributions at this event as well as expectations for the results achieved on the bilateral level.
The Vietnamese diplomat highlighted this year's WEF Dalian as one of the most significant events in the Asia-Pacific region, featuring the participation of more than 1,500 delegates, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Polish President Andrzej Sebastian Duda, alongside nearly 100 leaders and representatives from various countries, organizations, and international and Chinese businesses.
PM Chinh’s consecutive invitations to attend the conference indicate the importance and appreciation of Vietnam's role and contributions to global and regional economic growth by the WEF and the international business community.
According to Ambassador Pham Sao Mai noted the Vietnamese Government leader’s engagement in the event will open up plenty of opportunities for interaction and integration between the Vietnamese economy and the global economy. This event gives Vietnam a change to show its recent socio-economic development achievements and present an image of a dynamic, actively integrating, and attractive country to global corporations.
Through the conference, Vietnam is able to get deeper insights into new global economic issues and trends, exchange development strategies and governance practices, and contribute to dealing with common global challenges. Besides, it offers Vietnam the opportunity to foster relationships with countries, partners, and international organizations as a way of raising its international profile.
PM Chinh’s participation will help augment cooperation and partnership with the WEF in a more substantive fashion, especially in fields such as green transformation, digital transformation, energy, and science and technology.
Running the theme "New Growth Horizons" of this year's WEF meeting focuses on identifying new growth drivers, new industries, enhancing the role of enterprises, startups, and innovation, and resolving climate change-related issues.
PM Chinh will give a key-note speech at the opening plenary session and chair several sessions of discussion. He will participate in dialogues with major economic groups and innovative enterprises on cooperation opportunities, new solutions to global development issues, and Vietnam's economic development strategy. In addition, the Vietnamese cabinet leader will hold bilateral meetings with leaders of countries, international organizations, and major groups.
This marks the second consecutive year PM Pham Minh Chinh has visited and attended the WEF meeting in China, showing the high regard of the Vietnamese Party and Government for the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
PM Chinh’ trip provides an opportunity for senior leaders of both countries to discuss a score of specific measures to continue effectively realizing the common perceptions reached by their high-ranking leaders.
2025 is of great significance for bilateral ties as the year marks the 75th anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic relations (1950 - 2025).
Following historic visits by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in October 2022 and Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in December 2023, the two Parties have established a new position for bilateral relations, building a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future with strategic significance. This adds extra impetus to the two Parties and countries to continuously consolidate and strengthen friendly and neighborly relations and comprehensive cooperation.
"I firmly believe that, based on the advantages, potentials, needs, and existing foundation of bilateral relations, with the determination and combined efforts of the two Parties, countries, and peoples, the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will grow and flourish in the time ahead, for the benefit of the two peoples and for the sake of peace and development in the region and the world as a whole," Ambassador Mai emphasized.
