The Vietnam national football team has continued to fall down the FIFA world rankings, dropping one place to 116th in the latest list due to their poor performances in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Although the team enjoyed a 3-2 victory over the Philippines in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup at the My Dinh National Stadium, they ultimately exited the World Cup qualifiers after defeat against Iraq.

It marks the first time that Vietnam have fallen out of the top 110 since March, 2018. This is also the national team’s lowest position in eight years, since November, 2017, when they ranked 125th.

Vietnam are currently ranked the 20th in Asia and lost their leading position in Southeast Asia to Thailand who moved up to the 100th place in the rankings. Following Vietnam in Southeast Asia are Indonesia, who ranked 134th in the world.

Asia’s Top 3 include Japan at 17th, Iran at 20th, and the Republic of Korea at 22nd. The world rankings are still topped by Argentina, followed by France and Belgium.

The next FIFA rankings will be released on July 18.
