QUẢNG TRỊ — Police in the central province Quảng Trị has announced the successful seizure of over 400kg of illegally transported explosives and fireworks, following a coordinated operation with relevant agencies.
The interception occurred at 2pm on Monday, when police identified a suspicious vehicle travelling along National Highway No 9 from Lao Bảo Township to Đông Hà City.
The car, with licence plate 92C-027.31, was stopped for inspection.
Upon searching the car, authorities discovered 31 sacks containing 130kg of a solid substance believed to be explosives, 246 boxes of fireworks, and 1,000 firework pellets.
The total weight of the seized items exceeded 430kg.
The two people in the car, driver Đỗ Ngọc Mạnh, 43, and Nguyễn Thị Hương, 35, both residents of Hòa Nam Hamlet, Vĩnh Long Commune, Vĩnh Linh District, were detained on charge of illegal purchase and transportation of explosive materials.
At the police station, they admitted to purchasing the explosives and fireworks in Hướng Hóa District to sell for profit.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case. — VNS
