New head coach of U19 national team announced
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially announced on May 14 that Hua Hien Vinh will be the head coach of the Vietnamese U19 men’s national team.
Vinh was in charge of both selecting and coaching the national U19 team under a contract signed with the VFF back in November, 2023, leading the young squad at the 2024 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U19 Youth Championship and qualifying for the finals of the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup.
The 51-year-old coach hailing from Ho Chi Minh City has spent many years working for the Promotion Fund for Vietnamese Football Talent (PVF) Football Training Centre.
At the 2023 AFF U23 Championships he worked as an assistant for coach Hoang Anh Tuan and had made great contributions to leading the Vietnamese U23 side to victory at the tournament for the second time in Thailand.
As many as 30 footballers from Vietnam’s U19 squad will gather together on May 16. Their first training course aims to make preparations for the 2024 AFF U19 Youth Championship which will be held in Indonesia from July 17 to July 29, as well as the qualifying round to the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals which will be held in late September.
The team led by coach Vinh will participate in a friendly tournament in China between June 2 and June 12 where they will face strong rivals in the form of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Korea, and host nation China.
Also on May 14, the VFF appointed coach Tran Minh Chien to manage Vietnam’s U17 squad.
Moving forward, the local U17 footballers will gather on May 22 as they prepare to compete in the AFF U16 Championship from May 21 to July 4.
