The 1,568-hectare Thanh Long Lake Project could become a popular tourism site in the northern province of Hai Duong's Chi Linh City.

PM Pham Minh Chinh recently approved Hai Duong's proposal to develop the project by 2040.

Thanh Long Lake, which lies in the centre of the Con Son-Kiep Bac historical site, is said to have lots of tourism potential.

Hai Duong authorities have recently proposed developing the lake into a separate tourism site from the Con Son-Kiep Bac historical site, which archaeologists and historians have identified as where Vietnamese forces were prepared to repel Mongolian invaders during the Tran Dynasty.

During a recent visit to Hai Duong, PM Pham Minh Chinh also inspected the area and encouraged the development of the project. He stressed that the project was expected to help promote the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son-Kiep Bac complex, seeking UNESCO recognition.

At a recent meeting, Hai Duong People's Committee Chairman Trieu The Hung assigned local departments to work on the project.

According to the committee, they have signed an MoU with the Xuan Truong Company on investment into the site. The company intended to spend VND20 trillion on the project, including some key works, including a large pagoda and three towers built on the lake. "The site is expected to become a site that can attract domestic and foreign visitors," the committee said.
