A stunning dress named “Ngoc Diep Ky Nam” by designer Dang Tran Tri has been selected as the national costume which the Vietnamese contestant will don at the ongoing Miss Universe 2024.

According to details given by the organising board of Miss Universe Vietnam, the outfit draws inspiration from the butterfly-shaped umbrella in the Nguyen dynasty in the early 20th century, honouring the ingenuity and meticulousness of ancient artisans.

The outfit also features a Nhat Binh robe, which had been a popular costume for the nobility under the Nguyen dynasty with hand-embroidered details coupled with sparkling stones.

This comes after Vietnamese representative Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen reached the crucial private interview round at Miss Universe 2024 on November 13. She made a striking appearance whilst wearing a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai and conical hat, proudly showcasing Vietnamese culture and exuding confidence.

The semifinals of Miss Universe is scheduled to take place in Mexico on November 15 and will be hosted by Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel and Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios.

Meanwhile, the grand finale on November 17 will be hosted by Mario Lopez, Olivia Culpo, Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray, all of whom are seasoned and charismatic figures in international television.

The lineup of artists for the finale includes Robin Thicke, Emilio Estefan, Taboo, Vikina, Nico Ruiz, Richaelio, and The Mariachi.

Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, 28, from the northern province of Nam Dinh, stands at 1.76 metres tall with body measurement of 86-60-94 cm. She has experience working as a member of the judging panel and as a coach of many competitions, including The Look Vietnam 2017, Vietnam Supermodel 2018, Miss Sports 2022, and The Face Vietnam 2023.

During the Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 pageant, Ky Duyen won the Miss Popular Vote sub-title and was named among the Top 5 finalists of both the best evening gown and the best swimsuit sub-contests.
