In the qualifying round, the Vietnamese U17 players recorded a draw against Jeju United of the host the RoK, and gained two victories over Mito Hollyhock of Japan and Pohang Steelers of the RoK.
The team led by coach Nguyen Duy Dong lost to Japanese club Roasso Kumamoto and failed to win a place in the final.
In the third-placed competition, Vietnamese footballers trounced Mito Hollyhock of Japan 2-0 to bring home a bronze medal. K-League Asian Youth Championship Jeju was held from October 21 to October 26, gathering together a total of 10 young teams from Japan, China, Australia, Vietnam, and the RoK.
Vietnam sent a total of 19 footballers, including fifteen 17-year-old players and two 15-year-old players, to the tournament.
