Local athletes competing in judo and boxing learn fate after Olympic draws

Vietnamese participants in judo and boxing face tough groups at the upcoming Paris Olympics as they will face strong rivals in the first round of their respective tournaments.

According to the results of the draw ceremony held on July 25, Vietnamese judo practitioner Hoang Thi Tinh, world No.86, will face off against Oumaima Bedioui of Tunisia, who ranks 38th place in the world, at 15:00 p.m. on July 27.

Oumaima Bedioui, 26, was the Junior African Championships gold medalist in the women's 48 kg event. She also won a bronze medal at the 2022 Mediterranean Games which was held in Oran, Algeria.

The winner of the bout will progress to meet the winner of the match between Boukli Shirine of France, world No.5, and Beder Tugce of Turkey, world No.13.

Meanwhile, in the boxing event, two Vietnamese athletes Ha Thi Linh and Vo Thi Kim Anh will take on Feofaaki Epenisa of Tonga and Preeti Pawar of India in the women’s 60kg and 54 kg categories, respectively.

The matches are scheduled to take place on July 28.
