According to the regulations, the organisers award prizes to the top-ranking teams, whilst medals are also given to the top three performers across the five boards, with this being based on performance rating, who have played at least eight games.
Minh's Elo rating is expected to increase following the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024, thanks to his outstanding results achieved at the competition.
In the final round of the tournament which took place on the evening of September 22, Le Quang Liem did not appear. The Vietnamese men’s chess team, including Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, Tran Tuan Minh, and Banh Gia Huy, faced off against Canadian players.
Minh (Elo 2,564) playing with the white pieces, showed confidence to defeat Raja Panjwani (Elo 2,460) of Canada.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2,633) was held to a draw with Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux (Elo 2,509), Tran Tuan Minh (Elo 2,434) suffered a loss against Shiyam Thavandiran (Elo 2,388) and young player Banh Gia Huy (Elo 2,425) secured a draw with Razvan Preotu (Elo 2,451).
The match ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw between Vietnam and Canada.
With five wins, four draws, and two losses, the Vietnamese men’s chess team earned a total of 14 points, finishing 25th overall. The champion of the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 was India, followed by the United States in second place, and Uzbekistan in third.
In the women’s event, the Vietnamese team played China with the participation of Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Luong Phuong Hanh, and Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong. They suffered failure with a 3.5-0.5 loss.
This defeat places the Vietnamese women's team at 23rd overall. The women's champion this year was India, followed by Kazakhstan and the US.
Moving forward, the Chess Olympiad 2026 is scheduled to take place in Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
