Lao Cai hosts Sa Pa autumn festival for National Day celebrations

The 2024 Sa Pa autumn festival opened in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on August 30 to mark the 79th anniversary of National Day (September 2).

Upon addressing the opening ceremony of the event, Do Van Tan, vice chairman of Sa Pa’s People’s Committee, said the festival is part of cultural and art activities being held in the province as part of efforts to promote traditional cultural values of ethnic groups to both locals and tourists.

The highlight of the festival is an art programme which opened the event on August 30 and a ceremony to present certificates recognising Thac Bac Waterfall (Silver Waterfall) and the peak of Fansipan Mountain as provincial-level scenic relics.

Earlier on the same day a photo exhibition on the terraced fields, the first of its kind, kicked off in Sa Pa town and Mu Cang Chai district.

As many as 80 photos featuring a range of unique cultural aspects of ethnic minorities residing in terraced fields of two localities have been put on display.

Furthermore, a Mong ethnic cultural festival held at the Cat Cat tourist area in Hoang Lien commune, circus performances, and a food festival in Muong Hoa Valley will also get underway from August 31 to September 2.

Visitors will also have the chance to take part in folk games and learn how ethnic people create craft products through the festival.

Organisers will guide visitors as they experience a tour exploring ethnic tourism products through Sin Suoi Ho (Lai Chau)-Bat Xat-Bac Ha (Lao Cai)-Xin Man (Ha Giang).

In addition, a total of eight provinces in the northwestern region and Ho Chi Minh City will introduce their tourism potential and typical specialties, such as fruits and other types of food.
