HCM CITY — Cellist Kang Ji Seoung from South Korea will perform Czech composer Antonin Dvorak’s concerto at the HCM City Opera House this week.

The cellist will present the Cello Concerto in B Minor, op 104, B 191along with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera's (HBSO) symphony orchestra, on November 9.

The three-movement composition was written in 1894 and premiered in London in 1896.

The work is known for its rich orchestral music and lyrical writing for the solo instrument. It is one of the most frequently performed cello concertos.

Cellist Kang has been in Việt Nam before and performed with the Việt Nam Youth Orchestra in a concert called “A Night of the Cinema” in Hà Nội in April.

The concert will also feature Symphony No 2 in D Major, Op 73 composed by German composer Johannes Brahms in the summer of 1877.

The four-movement composition premiered in Vienna in December 1877. It is known as one of Brahms’ brightest compositions, having a well-balanced structure, elegant thematic development, and a feeling of optimism.
