Statistics show that from the beginning of the year to December 15, 2024, Vietnam spent US$361 billion importing goods from around the world, an increase of 15.6% compared to the same period last year.
Notably, computers, electronic products, and components topped the list of leading import items, with imports reaching US$102 billion, representing a year-on-year rise of 21.4%.
This is the first year that Vietnam’s imports of this category of commodities have exceeded the US$100 billion mark.
This reflects the strong growth in consumer and production demand, while also highlighting the important role of the electronics industry in the national economy.
The import turnover of these products mainly came from major markets such as China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and ASEAN countries. Among them, China remained the largest supplier, accounting for a significant share of the total import turnover.
Countries like the Republic of Korea and Japan also contributed significantly, especially in high-tech components.
