HÀ NỘI — Schools in Hà Nội City and several northern provinces have suspended in-person classes in response to heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Yagi and its aftermath.
In Hà Nội, 126 schools across the city halted classes as of September 11.
One notable example is Nghĩa Dũng Primary School in Phúc Xá Ward, Ba Đình District, which, given its proximity to the Red River, has switched entirely to online courses to ensure the safety of its students.
In Ba Vì District, several schools in Minh Châu Commune have fully transitioned to remote learning, while others shifted to a mix of online and face to face teaching.
Director of the Hà Nội Department of Education and Training Trần Thế Cương has instructed schools in the city to put the safety of their students and staff first.
He mandated that district-level education officials and school administrators would not resume in-person classes until it is absolutely safe to do so.
In Hà Nam and Hưng Yên provinces, education authorities have followed suit, requesting school closures amid heavy rains and flooding since September 11.
Director of the Hà Nam Department of Education and Training Phạm Anh Tuấn said schools had been instructed to halt operations, with plans for catch-up classes to be arranged later.
Meanwhile, students and teachers in Hưng Yên have been given a break on September 11 and 12.
Due to the rising waters, which reached 7.02m at the Hưng Yên hydrometric station at 9am on September 11, the Hưng Yên Province Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Rescue has declared a Level 3 alert for the left bank of the Red River. — VNS
