Upon addressing the event, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, president of the WBA, noted that the convention provides a chance for Asian boxing experts to gather together in the southern city and find ways to push forward sports development.
Luu Tu Bao, president of the Vietnam Boxing Federation, stressed that the function will help to demonstrate the country’s ability to carry out international events, while also giving an opportunity for the local boxing community to interact, learn, and exchange experiences with global leading experts.
The WBA Asia Convention is being held for the first time in Vietnam and will last through to August 11. The event will also offer a training course and certification for referees and professional judges.
Furthermore, the WBA Asia Vietnam Tournament is scheduled to take place at Saigon Sports Club in District 7 on August 11, with the occasion attracting many local and foreign professional boxers.
The WBA was originally founded in 1921 and is one of the leading and oldest boxing management organisations in the world. It is responsible for supervising, regulating, and ranking professional boxers globally and organising world championships.
This marks the first time that the WBA Asia Convention has been arranged in Vietnam, gathering Asian boxing experts to talk about issues related to boxing in the region and to discuss the future development of the sport.
