The seventh Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF 2024) officially opened at the Ho Guom Theater in the capital on November 7 evening.

Themed “Heritage in Motion - Cinema: Soaring – Creativity” HANIFF 2024 honours outstanding films from Vietnam and around the world that hold high artistic value and profound humanity. The festival not only recognizes breakthrough works in cinematic language but also provides an opportunity to discover and encourage new talents in the film industry.

The 2024 festival has attracted 117 films selected from 51 countries and territories worldwide. Featuring a diverse range of genres such as narrative films, documentaries, and animations, the festival presents audiences with global issues, various aspects of social life, as well as the beauty and unique customs of each nation around the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ta Quang Dong highlighted that the Hanoi International Film Festival, now in its seventh edition, has become a significant event for Vietnamese cinema.

“It continues to foster opportunities for international collaboration, allowing Vietnamese filmmakers to connect, exchange, and learn from international directors, producers, and artists. Through these connections, Vietnamese filmmakers gain access to advanced filmmaking trends and technologies to produce high-quality films,” said Dong.

“The festival also serves as a valuable occasion for film industry professionals from around the world to meet, network, and collaborate through high-caliber professional activities,” he added.

Alongside film screenings and workshops, the festival’s project market on November 7 contributes to nurturing young talent and providing a high-quality workforce for Vietnam’s film industry. The festival also offers an opportunity to showcase Vietnam as an attractive destination for international film crews, with unique and remarkable filming locations.

“It is evident that the Hanoi International Film Festival is not only a special cultural event but also plays a role in promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam’s film industry. It helps Vietnamese cinema establish its position on the global map and make a mark in international integration,” stated the Deputy Minister.
