HÀ NỘI — The Hà Nội Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has reported a significant surge in dengue fever cases, with 265 new infections recorded between August 23 and 30, bringing the total number to 2,500 since the beginning of the year.

No fatalities have been reported.

The disease has spread across 29 districts, with Đan Phượng, Hà Đông, Hoàng Mai, Hai Bà Trưng, Phúc Thọ, Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Từ Liêm, and Cầu Giấy the areas hit hardest.

The situation remains concerning, as 16 new outbreaks were detected last week in several districts, including Đan Phượng and Gia Lâm.

The city has seen a total of 120 dengue outbreaks this year, with thirty still active.

According to the CDC, the combination of hot weather and frequent rain has created ideal conditions for mosquitoes, which transmit the disease, to proliferate.

The number of cases is expected to continue rising, with some outbreaks persisting and new patients emerging.

Surveillance efforts at outbreak sites have revealed that mosquito populations remain above the risk threshold, indicating a potential increase in cases in the coming weeks.

In response to the ongoing threat, local authorities last week conducted 18 sanitation campaigns, inspecting over 136,000 households and 731 public areas and treating nearly 20,000 water containers to eliminate mosquito larvae.

The city also recorded 34 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease last week. Health officials predict an increase in infections as kindergartens and primary schools reopen after summer holiday.

Meanwhile, measles cases are on the rise in several regions, including HCM City.

Hà Nội has reported two cases of measles since the start of the year, with health authorities anticipating more cases in the coming time.
