Celebrating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, 1945 the streets of Hà Nội Capital have been glitteringly decorated with flags, flowers, banners, posters and hoardings.
Seventy-nine years ago on August 19, 1945, under the leadership of the Việt Nam Communist Party and President Hồ Chí Minh, the Vietnamese people simultaneously rose up in a general uprising, and seized power from the Japanese and the French.
Two weeks later on September 2, in a grand mass meeting at Ba Đình Square, President Hồ Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring before the entire world the birth of the Việt Nam Democratic Republic (now the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam).
