HÀ NỘI – A sophisticated gang shipping cannabis across Hà Nội has been smashed by police in the capital city.
The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department have arrested eleven people and seized more than 700kg of the drug.
Police first became aware of the illegal activities back in February when they were monitoring drug transportation routes.
They learned couriers without criminal records had been hired to ship packages of cannabis around the city that had been vacuum sealed to avoid any odours.
Three separate taskforces were established to make the arrests.
The first took four people into custody including Hoàng Văn Hà, one of the ring leaders, born 1999, from Văn Yên District of Yên Bái Province and living in Mễ Trì ward, Nam Từ Liêm District.
They also recovered 90.49kg of cannabis, six electronic scales, one heat gun, one vacuum packing machine and other related items and documents.
The second task force arrested Vũ Hồng Cúc, born 1990, at his address in Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm District and confiscated 74.04kg of cannabis, one electronic scale and other related items.
The third task force arrested six people, including another ringleader, Huỳnh Hữu Hoàng, born 1988, from Cam Lâm District of Khánh Hòa Province and residing in Vĩnh Cửu District of Đồng Nai Province.
It was here they seized the largest amount of cannabis with 600kg, one vacuum packing machine, six hydraulic presses and three electronic scales.
At the police station, the suspects confessed to their criminal activities.
The authorities are expanding their investigation and pursuit of the case to apprehended others connected to the ring. VNS
