Gold for Vietnam at 2024 US Open Table Tennis Championships

Two young Vietnamese athletes won a gold medal in the U17 girls’ doubles at the 2024 US Open Table Tennis Championships on December 20.

In the final game, Do Le Van Chi, 14, and Do Le Van Linh, 13, the duo defeated their American opponents, Emily Quan, 17, and Abigail Yu, 12, with a score of 3-2.

Early, on December 19, the two athletes secured a silver medal in the U15 girls’ doubles after a narrow 2-3 loss to the American pair Mandy Yu and Abigail Yu.

Both Van Chi and Van Linh are currently students at Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School in Da Lat City. They had previously won the girls’ doubles and women’s team events at the 2023 National Junior Table Tennis Championship.

The 2024 US Open Table Tennis Championships took place from December 16 to 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring 1,478 athletes from 19 countries and territories, with total prize money amounting to US$68,000.

This marks the first time Vietnamese players have participated in the US Open Table Tennis Championships that attracts many world-class players.
