HÀ NỘI — Four airports in Việt Nam affected by typhoon Yagi have resumed operations on Saturday evening and Sunday early morning.

Different airlines maintained their flights on Sunday as planned.

Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội operated normally from 11.50pm on Saturday.

Vân Đồn Airport in Quảng Ninh Province resumed operations from 8.12pm and the Thọ Xuân Airport in Thanh Hóa Province opened from 10pm on Saturday.

The Cát Bi Airport in Hải Phòng City reopened from just after midnight on Sunday.

Information from the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting showed that by Sunday morning, typhoon Yagi moved in a west-northwest direction, weakened and then gradually dissipated.

Based on the typhoon's developments and the airport's reopening plans, many airlines maintained normal flights on Sunday as planned, ensuring the travel for customers who had booked tickets.

Airlines recommend that passengers should proactively monitor information and arrange travel time to the airport to ensure on-time flights.

Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam decided to extend the suspension of aircraft reception at Vân Đồn and Cát Bi airports until 8pm on Saturday; at Nội Bài Airport until Saturday midnight, an increase of three hours compared to the announcement on late Friday.

145 flights were affected by the typhoon closures, including 65 outbound flights (39 domestic, 26 international), and 80 inbound flights not received (37 domestic, 43 international)

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines cancelled cancelled 34 flights and adjusted the working hours of 78 other domestic and international flights on Saturday and Sunday

Budget carrier Vietjet announced a temporary suspension of 67 flights to and from the Nội Bài Airport in Hà Nội from 10am to 7pm on Saturday.

On the same day, the airline also temporarily suspended 18 flights to and from the Cát Bi Airport in Hải Phòng City from 5am to 4pm, and four flights to and from the Thọ Xuân Airport in Thanh Hóa Province from 12pm to 10pm.

Bamboo Airways also cancelled 14 flights on Saturday.

The Việt Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) said that on Saturday morning, Vân Đồn and Cát Bi airports were directly affected by the typhoon from 7am with strong winds and the lowest visibility during the typhoon.

The Nội Bài Airport was directly affected by the typhoon from around 10am, visibility was reduced to 800-2,000m during the typhoon. Some barriers at the airport collapsed due to strong winds.

At around 12pm, the typhoon affected the Thọ Xuân Airport, with very heavy rain and the lowest visibility reduced to 1.5-3km.

The VATM issued an official dispatch requesting relevant units to focus on responding to the typhoon and post-typhoon floods and proactively overcome consequences. — VNS
