For the first time a foreign conductor will take part in Vietnam’s annual symphony concert "Điều Còn Mãi" (What Remains Forever) in Hanoi on September 2 to mark the country’s 79th National Day.

“It’s my honour to take part in the concert,” said French conductor Olivier Ochanine at a press briefing on August 21.

The conductor, who has been living in Vietnam for seven years, said he has to spend much time studying the rhythm as well as meanings of the lyrics as the Vietnamese language is very difficult.

Ochanine is a French conductor and flutist. He won first prize at the Antal Dorati International Conducting Competition in Budapest, Hungary, in 2015 when he surpassed nearly 120 other opponents from 23 countries.

He also won the American Prize 2015 in the Professional Orchestra Conducting division, and second prize at the London Classical Soloists International Conducting Competition in 2015.

The September 2 concert also marks the first time that the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will take part in the concert.

Established in 2017, the SSO is comprised of some of well-known musicians from around the world and Vietnamese talents. It aims to become one of Vietnam’s premier classical orchestras. Since its official launch in May 2018, the orchestra has earned plenty of accolades from prominent composers, international artists, and eminent cultural authorities.

Furthermore, many Vietnamese singers will perform at the concert, featuring renowned revolutionary songs in celebration of the 79th anniversary of National Day.

The show will take place at 2 p.m. at the Hanoi Opera House on September 2 and will be broadcast live on the Vietnam Television (VTV) channel.
