Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the launch ceremony of the Vietnamese Business Association in Korea (BAViK) on May 30 in Seoul, and received young Vietnamese scientific intellectuals as part of his official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the BAViK, FM Son congratulated the Vietnam Business Association in the RoK on its official establishment and emphasized that the establishment of the association represents an important milestone marking the maturity of the Vietnamese business community in the RoK in particular, as well as the strong development of the Vietnamese community abroad.

He noted that mutual relations are at their best stage of development. Since 2022, the two countries have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. The RoK continues to rank first in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI), second in official development assistance cooperation (ODA), and third in labour and trade co-operation.

Highlighting the important contributions made by entrepreneurs to the national development over recent time, the FM affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to offering good opportunities and special policy mechanisms aimed at supporting overseas Vietnamese businessmen towards the Fatherland, the business community, and Vietnamese businesses in the RoK.

Therefore, it can be considered necessary to capitalize on the advantages and opportunities of economic co-operation between the two countries, enhance links with domestic businesses, unite to grow stronger, and make practical contributions to national development, as well as the general comprehensive strategic partnership that exists between Vietnam and the RoK.

The same day saw FM Son attend a discussion with a group of Vietnamese intellectuals and young scientists in the RoK, during which he affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent guidelines and policies of always considering the Vietnamese community abroad as an inseparable part and a resource for the cause of national industrialization and modernization.

As part of this occasion, the Vietnamese diplomat said that the Vietnamese Government is placing a very high determination on solutions focusing on three strategic breakthroughs in the field of research, development, and application of artificial intelligence (AI). This is along with the semiconductor industry, with preferential institutions and policies aimed at attracting talents, supporting businesses, and training human resources.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established a working group aimed at promoting the development of the semiconductor industry and stands ready to act as a bridge bringing knowledge, technology, and wisdom of the Vietnamese community abroad to serve the cause of national industrialization and modernisation, he added.

At the seminar, scientists expressed confidence in the policies and guidelines of the Vietnamese Party and State in terms of governance and national construction, especially paying attention to and prioritizing investment in science and technology in the digital era which is developing rapidly as it is today.
