Female Vietnamese team wins gold at Asian Taekwondo Championship
Female Vietnamese athletes, including Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai, won gold on May 15 in the women’s team poomsae (performance) event held at the Asian Taekwondo Championship in Da Nang.
The trio gained 8,066 and 8,032 points in their first and second performances, beating strong Indian rivals to grab the gold medal for the first time.
Furthermore, the same day saw Nguyen Dinh Toan, Nguyen Van Truong, and Vu Thanh Duong also claim a silver medal in the men’s team poomsae event, while Nguyen Thien Phung and Nguyen Thi Le Kim also brought home a bronze medal in the mixed doubles poomsae event.
This comes after Vietnamese athletes also bagged three bronzes in poomsae events on the morning session of May 14.
Historically, Vietnamese players have won many Asian and world medals in poomsae in the past.
It is the fourth time that the nation has hosted the continental competition with the three previous events being held in 1998, 2012, and 2018.
The Asian Para Taekwondo Open will follow on May 19 and the sixth Asian Taekwondo Open Championships will run from May 20 to May 24 in the same place.
