The exhibition consists of three parts, including Context before the Geneva Conference, Developments and Results of the conference and Implementation the Geneva Agreement and Unification, and Innovation and National Development.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn said that when the Geneva Agreement was signed 70 years ago (July 21, 1954), for the first time in history, Việt Nam's basic national rights of independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity were officially affirmed in an international treaty and recognised by the countries and parties attending the conference.

The Geneva Agreement and the Điện Biên Phủ Victory were not only hugely significant to the Vietnamese revolution, but also became a source of support for national liberation movements and marked the start of the collapse of colonialism around the world.

"Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement is an opportunity for young generation to show their gratitude to President Hồ Chí Minh and previous generations – veterans and revolutionaries who participated in negotiating and signing the Geneva Accords, devoted their lives to peace, independence and freedom of the nation," the minister said.

At the Exhibition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also introduced the photo book named Hiệp định Giơ-ne-vơ 1954 – Dấu mốc lịch sử của cách mạng Việt Nam (The 1954 Geneva Agreement – A historical milestone of the Vietnamese revolution).

This book collects more than 250 photos and documents related to the process of negotiating, signing and implementing the Geneva Agreement, collected from the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and numerous domestic and foreign agencies, organisations and individuals.

"Through the exhibition and photo book, we once again affirm to international friends that Việt Nam always appreciates the valuable support and assistance of international friends and world peace-loving people, who dedicated to liberation of the Vietnamese people and development of the country," he said.

The exhibition is open until September 5 at the National Museum of History, 1 Tràng Tiền Street, Hoàn Kiếm District, Hà Nội. VNS
