The coastal city of Da Nang and Germany’s Thuringia state have agreed to set up co-operative relations in the fields of human resource development, investment, trade, science, innovation, and cultural exchanges.

A memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed by Le Trung Chinh, chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee and Minister-President of Thuringen state Bodo Ramelow.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Chinh, who was on a working visit to Germany, expressed his wish that Thuringia will continue to act as a bridge to connect Da Nang to German businesses in an effort to expand co-operation and assist the city in realizing its socio-economic and cultural development goals.

He underscored the importance of the visit made by a delegation of Da Nang businesses in fostering co-operative ties between the two localities, which is expected to bring about practical benefits in the spheres of human resource development, investment, trade, science, and innovation, as well as cultural exchanges.

In Thuringia state, the delegation also worked alongside a number of representatives from German organisations and businesses, namely MEININGER Wurstspezialitaten Thuringen, Marienstift Arnstadt hospital, and manufacturer Hehnke GmbH & Co. KG.

Last year Da Nang earned US$30 million from exporting products to Germany, and spent US$23 million importing commodities from the Central European country.

There are currently 13 German investment projects operating in Da Nang with a total investment capital of more than US$11 million, focusing on the fields of restaurant – hotel services, information technology, construction consulting services, and transportation.
