Coast Guard stands side-by-side with fishermen in Mekong Delta province

Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command has carried out many activities to support fishermen in Gò Công Đông District in the Cửu Long (Mekong) province of Tiền Giang.

TIỀN GIANG — Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command has carried out many activities to support fishermen in Gò Công Đông District in the Cửu Long (Mekong) province of Tiền Giang.

Making efforts to implement the Việt Nam Coast Guard’s mass mobilisation movement, the Vũng Tàu City-based Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command on Sunday together with Tiền Giang Province’s Party Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation and the People's Committee and Party Committee of Gò Công Đông District, organised a mass mobilisation programme called "The Coast Guard accompanies fishermen."

During the programme, the Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command informed local cadres, civil servants, public employees, fishing boat owners, fishermen, and people in the district about the current security situation at sea and on islands.

It also provided updates on the Party's viewpoints and policies on the national sovereignty on the sea and islands, the Việt Nam Coast Guard Law and Fisheries Law, and legal provisions on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention and control.

It presented 20 national flags, life jackets, leaflets and legal handbooks to local fishing boat owners and fishermen.

It also visited and presented 200 gifts (including rice, fish sauce, instant noodles, and other necessities) to local policy beneficiary families and people in difficult circumstances.

In collaboration with Hùng Vương Hospital, doctors provided free health check-ups and medicine to more than 300 local policy beneficiary families, fishermen and people in difficult circumstances.

It plans to continue the implementation of this mass mobilisation programme in HCM City and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu and Bình Thuận provinces in September.

The Coast Guard Region No. 3 Command under the Việt Nam Coast Guard is tasked with managing the sea from Cù Lao Xanh Island in the coastal south-central province of Bình Định to the northern bank of Định An estuary in the Mekong Delta province of Trà Vinh, including the waters of the Trường Sa (Spratly) Islands and DK1 rigs.

Over the past years, it has completed its task of protecting the nation's sovereignty and enforcing the law at sea. — VNS
