According to the list, the local dish ranked in second place.
On its website, CNN Travel quoted Andrea Nguyen, author of “The Pho Cookbook”, as sayings that the broth is simmered for hours and seasoned with cinnamon, star anise and other warm spices in order to create a wonderfully aromatic base for this rice noodle soup.
“Pho is among Vietnam’s most recognized culinary exports, but the soup is a relatively new food,” it noted.
According to Andrea Nguyen, pho restaurants today serve many different flavors, but the original beef remains. In 1930, pho was served with slices of raw beef blanched in broth (rare beef).
“Today, beef pho remains the most beloved version in Vietnam, with options that include the original raw beef, a mix of raw and cooked beef, brisket and tendon,” CNN wrote.
Previously, Vietnamese pho has also featured several times as one of the best dishes in the world. World travel guide book publisher the Lonely Planet hailed Vietnamese cuisine as the world's 20th best food experience, while international food magazine TasteAtlas ranked beef pho in third place among the 10 dishes with the best meat broth in the world in 2023.
Rounding off the list of CNN’s top 20 world’s best soups is Banga of Nigeria; Borscht of Ukraine; Bouillabaisse of France; Caldo verde of Portugal; Chorba frik of Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia; Chupe de camarones of Peru; Gazpacho of Spain; Groundnut soup of West Africa; Gumbo of the United States; Harira of Morocco; Kharcho of Georgia; Lanzhou beef noodle soup of China; Mohinga of Myanmar; Menudo of Mexico; Moqueca de camarão of Brazil; Soto ayam of Indonesia; Tom yum goong of Thailand; Tonkotsu ramen of Japan; and Yayla çorbasi of Turkey.
