CẦN THƠ - Cần Thơ will host exciting activities at the 2025 Ất Tỵ Spring Flower Market and Tây Đô Lunar New Year Festival, both of which will begin on January 17.
The Department of Industry and Trade of Cần Thơ City, in collaboration with relevant agencies, have held a press conference to announce the coming events in Cần Thơ City.
Speaking at the press conference, Hà Vũ Sơn, director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Cần Thơ City, said the Ất Tỵ Spring Flower Market 2025 will take place from January 17 to January 28, and will be organised on a regional scale in the Mekong Delta.
This event provides an opportunity for merchants, gardeners, and ornamental plant producers in Cần Thơ City and Mekong Delta provinces to connect and exchange goods.
It also supports ornamental plant businesses while catering to the recreational, shopping, and sightseeing needs of local residents and tourists, both domestic and international, during the Lunar New Year.
According to Sơn, the Cần Thơ Spring Flower Market will feature over 200 stalls displaying ornamental plants, bonsai, and flowers from merchants, gardeners, and cooperatives in Cần Thơ.
Additionally, more than 120 stalls are expected from other Mekong Delta provinces and cities.
The director of the Department of Industry and Trade further said that farmers and traders from Cần Thơ and beyond who wish to do business at the Spring Flower Market will be exempt from fees for site rental, electricity, and water.
As for the Tây Đô Lunar New Year Festival 2025, it will be held at Tây Đô Square from January 17 to January 23.
Unlike other events, the Tây Đô Festival 2025 will not only showcase the specialties of the Mekong Delta but also provide an experiential journey through the cultural characteristics of Tết (Lunar New Year) celebrations across Việt Nam's three regions.
The festival will feature over 100 stalls offering cultural and culinary delights from various localities, live demonstrations of intricate dishes, vibrant traditional performances, games with prizes, and unique experiences such as exploring the culinary culture of Tết from the three regions, creating traditional Tết feasts, watching performances of đờn ca tài tử (a traditional Southern folk music genre), and enjoying colourful Spring-themed youth music nights.
“This event not only contributes to preserving and promoting local cultural heritage but also reenacts the traditional Tết atmosphere, evoking memories of the lifestyle and activities of Cần Thơ’s garden-dwelling residents and the Mekong Delta community during Lunar New Year preparations,” Sơn added.
During the event, representatives from major restaurants and hotels in Cần Thơ announced discount services for visitors and overseas Vietnamese returning to celebrate Tết while attending the festival. VNS
