ĐỒNG NAI The owner of the bread store implicated in the food poisoning case in Đồng Nai has paid medical fees for patients, according to authorities.

More than VNĐ580 million (US$22,800) was paid to more than 500 patients hospitalised due to the poisoning, according to Deputy Chairman of Đồng Nai People's Committee Tăng Quốc Lập on Thursday.

Lập also said that the Long Khánh City People's Committee has also visited and donated VNĐ24 million ($950) to twelve children who suffered from the poisoning and are currently at Đồng Nai Children's Hospital.

All patients treated at Long Khánh Regional General Hospital and Đồng Nai Rubber General Hospital have been discharged, while one child still receiving treatment at Đồng Nai Children's Hospital in a fairly recovered and conscious state.

Another child is being treated at HCM City Children's Hospital No.1, and in a deep coma but has stable vital signs.

On the evening of May 1, Long Khánh Regional General Hospital began admitting and treating patients suspected of food poisoning after eating bread. Patients were admitted with symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhoea after consuming meat sandwiches from Bakery B. between 3pm and 7pm on April 30, 2024.

Test results on food samples such as pate, processed pork, sausage and pickled vegetables taken from Bakery B revealed the presence of Salmonella bacteria, detected by the HCM City Public Health Institute.
