Đàn Ông Không Cần Khóc' (Men Don't Need to Cry), is the second production that singer Tùng Dương has released within only three months.

HÀ NỘI – To celebrate his birthday in his own style, Vietnamese divo Tùng Dương has released new music video.

Entitled Đàn Ông Không Cần Khóc (Men Don't Need to Cry), the video is the second production that the singer has released within only three months.

In June, Dương’s epic-styled music video Cánh Chim Phượng Hoàng (Phoenix Wings), which honours all the Vietnamese women, amazed his fans by its use of cutting-edge cinematic visual effects.

In the newest video, on the emotional tides of men, both when they feel strongest and in times of vulnerability, is created not just through fictional characters, but also through true stories, featuring real individuals.

The poignant stories are woven together, from a wheelchair-bound dancer (played by Chiến Bùi), a solitary clown (played by Quang Tuấn) and Tino Huỳnh, a transgender bodybuilder. The climactic moment reveals the quiet revelation of men’s hidden tears – it is about movie actor Quốc Tuấn, who stands side-by-side his disabled son Bôm. Together, they paint an inspiring tale of fatherhood and the countless sacrifices that a father makes for his child, in order for them to live normally in extremely difficult circumstances.

Young songwriter Antoine Lai, who composed the piece said: “Amid painful losses or the collapse of faith, the forced smiles and sad eyes are what I always observe in men. As I was growing up and faced with my first personal loss, I realised that men, like all humans, have a need to cry.

“However, most men choose to remain silent, suppressing the emotions swirling within, because if their tears are seen, those around them will no longer have a source of emotional support. For me, a man's tears become a precious gem, inviting everyone to reflect on their meaning through this song," he said.

Immediately after the first draft of the work Antoine Lai thought about Tùng Dương, as the singer is not only his idol, but also has an impressive voice.

“The voice that Tùng Dương possesses, characterised by maturity, strength and abundant experience, is the key reason why I entrusted him with the song Men Don't Need to Cry," said the songwriter, who currently lives in France.

Creating the script for the music video, the 41-year-old divo collaborated with directors Nghĩa Kao and Ngân Thanh, to tell an emotional story that not only delves into life’s formidable challenges and emotional peaks, but also celebrates the profound beauty within men’s souls. In that they discover that empathy – the thread that binds hearts – holds the key to overcoming even the most discouraging obstacles.

Taking about challenges during the filming process, director Nghĩa Kao said that it was exacting and also stressful because of the tight deadlines.

He said: "Due to Tùng Dương's busy schedule, we only had a week to shoot, thus our team had to focus intensely.

“The hardest part was how to portray the six characters: the transgender athletes, the dancer who lost his legs, actor Quốc Tuấn and his son Bôm, the solitary clown and Tùng Dương himself, all harmonising visually within just over four minutes of the video. The short timeframe for production was both a challenge and an opportunity for me and the team,” said the 23-year-old.
