Vietnam raked in US$9.2 billion from exporting aquatic products during the initial 11 months of the year, marking an annual increase of 11.5%, reported the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

November alone witnessed businesses earn US$925 million from exporting the products, up 17% year on year.

VASEP pointed out that shrimp exports fetched over US$3.5 billion, rising by 13.6% and accounting for 38.8% of the country’s total seafood export value during January-November period. Pangasius exports also edged up by 9.5% year on year to gross US$1.8 billion.

Tuna exports also surged by 17.4% to US$906 million, mainly due to a sharp rise in the canned-product segment, with the potential to reach US$1 billion by the end of the year like in 2022.

China and Hong Kong (China) surpassed the United States to become Vietnam’s largest seafood export market with turnover of US$1.7 billion during the 11-month period, up 61% year on year.

The US market enjoyed an increase of 21% to grow to US$1.67 billion in the reviewed period.

VASEP experts predict that Vietnam will record US$10 billion in seafood export turnover this year, up 11.5% from the previous year. Two major export items - shrimp and pangasius - will contribute US$4 billion and US$2 billion, respectively, to the total.
